“I had been living in Compton with two of my children when I suddenly lost my job. That was in March of 2005. Without any income, I couldn’t pay the rent and my family and I became homeless.

We ended up on Skid Row and I was scared for my family but my kids kept pushing me, saying, ‘Daddy, it’s gonna be alright.’ I was finally referred to LAFH’s Trudy and Norman Louis Transitional Living Center (TLC). I came to TLC with a plan and a goal for a better life for my children: I was not going to get them into this situation again. In my time at TLC I completed life skills and employment workshops, cleared up outstanding legal issues, saved some money, purchased a car, and enrolled my children in after-school tutoring.

In May of 2007, I completed a customer service training program at Valley College and was hired at the new HOWS Market in North Hollywood. Six months later, I have already received a promotion and pay raise.

The most meaningful experience for me, however, was when I was reunited with my oldest son who had been living with another family member. It felt so good to have all my kids together.

LAFH’s property management department was able to place me and my family into their newest property, Cecil Younger Gardens in Van Nuys. We moved into our new home in September and love it there!
