A Letter from the Mencer Family
August 2006To all the employees of The Home Depot who helped build the playground at L.A. Family Housing on June 15, 2006 - my name is Mischell. My family lives in the Sydney M. Irmas Transitional Living Center (TLC), and we were here when you built the playground.
I wanted everyone who took the time to come and help build it for us to know about the change you have made. You have helped give our children back their childhood. When a family loses everything - a home, school, friends - life is turned inside out, and it's hard for a child to understand. They end up growing up too fast, and dealing with things children should never have to deal with. When the TLC playground came in, it's as if our children were told, "It's OK-be a kid and have fun. Let mom and dad worry."
And believe me, they have. Every day in the evening, when it's nice and cool, they play for hours. I love to watch them run and play and not have a worry in the world. So, to everyone who built the playground on that hot day, I want you all to know that your hard work was worth it, that you made a difference. To say thank you just doesn't seem to be enough, but since that is all we have to give, from the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you.
