Your Time & Talent
Opportunities
We count on volunteers to enhance services for residents and reduce overhead, making donors’ dollars go further. Each year more than 1,000 community volunteers from student organizations, faith institutions, and civic agencies provide 25,000 service hours.
To volunteer please contact:
Bonnie Kleiger
Volunteer Services Coordinator
P: 818-982-4091 x129
Homework Help
Work with resident students after-school to help them complete their homework and learn good study habits.
Cafeteria
Help our kitchen staff prepare and serve meals, set up the salad bar, wipe tables and chairs, and sweep the kitchen floors in one of our two shelter cafeterias. Cafeteria volunteers must be a minimum of 16-years-old to participate in food preparation.
Share Your Talent
Do you have a talent or skill that you would like to share with our residents? They would love to learn it! Recent activities include filmmaking and journalism workshops, singing lessons, sewing and cooking instruction, sports club and dance classes.
Collect & Sort Donations
Hold a drive for much needed hygiene items with your school or community group, then come to LAFH to sort the collections that will be distributed to our residents.
Prepare Resident Baskets
Prepare “Welcome” baskets for all of our incoming residents and “Good Luck” baskets for those transitioning to permanent housing that contain essential household items like toothpaste, deodorant, and cleaning supplies.
Birthday Parties
Host an on-site monthly party for all of the kids living in our shelters whose birthdays are in that month. Bring a treat and plan some games or activities for a fun afternoon.
Beautify Our Premises
Do you like to get dirty? Make our facilities shine with cleaning and landscaping assistance.
Office Support
Are your closets meticulously organized? We want your help to sort, file, label, and perform other fun organizing tasks that involve reams of paper and electronic data.
