HOUSING Statistics
This past year, L.A. Family Housing provided services to 7,704
clients in the following categories:
Emergency Shelter ---------------
2,818 Individuals, 2,699 Households
Individuals and families in need of immediate housing were served
at our Trudy and Norman Louis Valley Shelter, Sydney M. Irmas Transitional
Living Center, Comunidad Cesar Chavez and the National Guard Armory.
Transitional Housing -----------------
809 Individuals, 470 Households
Individuals and families engaged in the intensive process of rebuilding
their lives from homelessness to self-sufficiency were served at
our Sydney M. Irmas Transitional Living Center, Trudy and Norman
Louis Valley Shelter, Triangle House for a period of six months
to two years.
Permanent Housing ------------------885
Individuals, 243 Households
Our multi-family permanent housing facilities throughout Los Angeles
provide affordable housing for formerly homeless families who have
successfully completed the LAFH program and have become self-sufficient.
Service Sites ---------------------2,628
Individuals, 1,274 Households
LAFH's Access Centers provide information, case management and referral
services to homeless and low-income families, as well as community
outreach in areas including Pacoima, Van Nuys, Sun Valley and East
Los Angeles. Homeless clients are helped to find shelter; community
members are assisted with self-sufficiency supportive services.
Community Programs ----------------564
Individuals, 349 Households
IDA - LAFH’s Individual Development
Account (IDA) program teaches low-income families to become qualified
homebuyers, secure financing from community lenders, and help locate
suitable homes for purchase based upon family needs. The program
provides homebuyer education and counseling, assistance with credit
repair, financial management training, and the home maintenance
abilities required to successfully own a home for years to come.
Neighborhood Action Program –
Our Neighborhood Action Program provides family intervention services
for youth and their parents, including educational support, parenting
education, life skills counseling, and leadership development training,
as well as gardening and field trips.
Family Self-Sufficiency
– Over the past several years LAFH has provided family self-sufficiency
services--including case management, employment assistance, money
management, a savings program and other resources--for families
making the transition from public subsidies to economic independence.
